About the Concert

Tickets for these and other events will go on sale on 21 JUNE, as will election tickets for the coming season.

For the opening of the Czech-German Cultural Days, the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra and its Czech partners will present a special programme. Leoš Janáček was ahead of his time not only as a composer. He composed his "Our Father" to raise funds for a women's shelter in Brno - a highly progressive institution at the time. But it is also musically forward-looking, and is fascinating simply because of the unusual accompaniment by harp and organ. Bohuslav Martinů, on the other hand, drew on dances from his homeland for his oboe concerto, but also used elements of jazz, which he had learned to love in America.

Johannes Brahms, for his part, loved the human voice and created other impressive choral works in addition to his famous "German Requiem". The "Schicksalslied" is undoubtedly one of them. He used a poem by Friedrich Höldelin for it, which describes the contrast between heavenly and earthly life.

The choral parts will be performed by the Prague Philharmonic Choir, the soloist for the oboe concerto will be the solo oboist of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, Johannes Pfeiffer.
