About the Concert
The discography of Mikhail Pletnev, who won the Gold Medal and First Prize of the "International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition" in Moscow in 1978 at the age of only twenty-one, comprises over 100 recordings, not a few of which enjoy reference status. Together with the Parma-based Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini under the baton of the charismatic Israeli conductor Omer Meir Wellber, he will interpret Tchaikovsky's famous Piano Concerto No. 1. In addition, the overtures to "I vespri siciliani" and "Tannhäuser", two other "earworms" by Verdi and Wagner, will be performed before the concert concludes with the work of an Italian grand master of modern music: "Metamorphoseon" by Respighi, written in 1930.
