Julia Selina Blank

Julia Selina Blank is the founder and conductor of the JSB Ensemble Oslo, as well as artistic director of the NOVA Chamber Choir, one of Norway's leading amateur choirs. She won both the World Choral Conducting Competition in Hong Kong in 2019 and the London International Choral Conducting Competition in 2018, and is among the finalists for the 2021 Eric Ericson Award in Stockholm. Since the beginning of 2021, she has received a grant from the Norwegian Ministry of Culture for young, talented artists.
In the 21/22 season, she is re-invited as a guest conductor with the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir and takes on rehearsals with the Bavarian Radio Choir and the Norwegian Soloists Choir (Det Norske Solistkor), where she served as assistant to Grete Pedersen in 2016-18. Previously, she was engaged by the Choir of the Central German Radio and the Swedish Radio Choir, among others. During her studies, the conductor founded the Junge Vokalensemble München. In addition to conducting their own concert productions, the group was part of the musical theater "Mittelreich" at the Munich Kammerspiele for several seasons.
She completed her studies in choral conducting in Munich with Michael Gläser and in Stockholm with Fredrik Malmberg. She completed her master's degree in 2018 in Oslo with Grete Pedersen. This was followed by additional studies in orchestral conducting. She received important artistic impulses in numerous master classes under the direction of conductors such as Daniel Reuss, Anders Eby and Anne Kohler.
