About the Concert

Tickets for this event will be available from 12.06.2024 from 10 am.

Composed in 1913, "Le sacre du printemps" (The Rite of Spring) is considered one of the key works of the 20th century. The premiere of the ballet in Paris became a scandal. The music could only be played to the end with great difficulty and ignoring the boos from the audience. The ballet music, which is usually performed in concert today, shines with its almost acrobatic rhythms and exciting combinations of different instruments in a very large and elaborate orchestra. Twenty woodwinds, eight horns, several trumpets and trombones, numerous percussion instruments and a large string section alone create a powerful sound impression. Ligeti's "Lux aeterna" is completely different, in which the choir alone seems to transport us to distant regions on sound surfaces. No wonder Stanley Kubrick used this music in his monumental film "2001: A Space Odyssey".
