About the Concert

No concert without Bach! Our palace organist Iveta Apkalna remains true to this principle even in the New Year's Eve concert and opens it with perhaps his most famous piece, the Toccata and Fugue in D minor. Hollywood has turned the work into a soundtrack for horror - vampires, castles, fog included. No wonder, as it captivates the audience from the first note. The concert continues grippingly and virtuosically with works by French composers, who are known for their love for the queen of instruments, until it ends with probably the second most famous organ piece. In the Toccata from the Fifth Organ Symphony by Charles Marie Widor, Apkalna truly explores all the technical possibilities of our concert hall organ, thus putting a brilliant end to the past year. Afterwards, you can welcome the new year with a glass of champagne overlooking the Altmarkt in the Kulturpalast. The house will remain open for concert-goers until 12:45 am.

As Invitation from the Dresdner Philharmonie.
