Baiba Skride

Baiba Skride is one of the most distinguished violinists of our time, respected worldwide for inspiring interpretations and her distinctive violin tone.
She has performed with world-class orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Boston and Chicago Symphony Orchestras, New York Philharmonic, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Stockholm
Rundfunk, Orchestre de Paris, London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and NHK Symphony Orchestra. Conductors with whom Baiba Skride has collaborated include Marin Alsop, Christoph Eschenbach, Edward Gardner, Susanna Mälkki, Andris Nelsons, Andres Orozco-Estrada, Santtu-Matias Rouvali, Andris Poga, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Tugan Sokhiev, John Storgårds, Juraj Valčuha and Kazuki Yamada.
Highlights of the 2021/2022 season include the season opening of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, where Baiba Skride will present Sofia Gubaidulina's Triple Concerto together with Harriet Krijgh (cello) and Martynas Levickis (bayan) and conducted by Andris Nelsons. In celebration of the composer's 90th birthday, Baiba Skride returns to the orchestra to perform Gubaidulina's 1st Violin Concerto "Offertorium," which she will also perform later in the season with the London Symphony Orchestra and Dima Slobodeniouk, as well as
with the Hallé Orchestra Manchester and Sir Mark Elder. Furthermore, she returns to the hr Symphony Orchestra under Alain Altinoglu with Gubaidulina's 3rd Violin Concerto "Dialog: Me and You." Baiba Skride is also looking forward to concerts with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Residentie Orchestra Den Haag, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and Singapore Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Baiba Skride also performs as a chamber musician in major venues worldwide. With her Skride Quartet, founded in 2016, she has performed at the Concertgebouw, Musikverein Vienna, Wigmore Hall London, and Louvre Paris, and has toured North America and Australia. In the 2021/22 season, she will also perform in a trio with her sister Lauma Skride and Harriet Krijgh, as well as in various chamber ensembles with Alban Gerhardt and Brett Dean.
Baiba Skride is looking forward to the release of her latest solo recording in January 2022. Other recent releases on the Orfeo label include her recording of the Mozart violin concertos with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra and her Bartok recording with the WDR Sinfonieorchester, both with Eivind Aadland, as well as a CD of violin concertos by American composers Bernstein, Korngold and Rózsa with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Santtu- Matias Rouvali, as well as the debut recording of her Skride Quartet.
Baiba Skride grew up in a family of musicians in Riga, where she also began her music studies. In 1995 she moved to the Rostock University of Music and Theatre to study with Professor Petru Munteanu. In 2001 she won the 1st prize of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. She plays the Stradivarius "Yfrah Neaman", a generous loan from the Neaman family through the mediation of the Beares International Violin Society.
