About the Concert

Optimism, lightness, and new beginnings - our concerts for the turn of the year are entirely dedicated to Viennese waltzes and more. And who embodies this better than the Strauss family - starting with father Johann Strauss, through his son Johann, the "Waltz King," and to his younger brother Josef Strauss. The program, dedicated to the occasion of his 200th birthday in 2027, is under the direction of our concertmaster Wolfgang Hentrich. Josef was always somewhat in the shadow of his brother, yet he is considered the more musically refined and profound - even though he originally wanted to become a bridge builder, not a composer. It was only because his brother Johann was too exhausted that he stepped in. A stroke of luck for the music world, as in addition to absolute classics like "The Blue Danube" and the spectacular polka "Thunder and Lightning," there is also the polka "Fireproof," which Josef Strauss wrote on commission from the Wertheim company, whose trademark was fireproof safes...
