Kurzkonzert

Short & Casual: Tschaikowski

Tchaikovsky's Sixth Symphony, the "Pathétique", in a short concert

About the Concert

Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 is a masterpiece, it is peculiar and unique. His brother Modest was also convinced of this. He gave the work the nickname "Pathétique". And yes, it is pathetic. Even more: the Sixth is tragic, dramatic, gripping, ominous. And it is Tchaikovsky's swan song: He died nine days after the premiere. Whether it was an infection with cholera or the death sentence of a "court of honor" because of his homosexuality - theories abound. Not at all a theory is the effect of this great music: it captivates from the first note and releases its listeners only when the last note of the lonely last movement has long faded away.

In our abFRACKt series, things are different: the concert lasts no more than an hour, the musicians don't play in black tails, and no one has to fear clapping in the wrong place.

And you don't need any special knowledge to understand the music "correctly". Just come, listen and be surprised. And if you want to learn more about the music, you can download the free Wolfgang app onto your smartphone and be guided through the respective work live in concert.

Afterwards, we invite you to stay in our foyers, get a glass of wine or beer in the Café "Tutti" and relax a bit more, talk or simply look out over the city from the balcony...
