About the Concert
Also in 2024, one of the best traditional Chinese orchestras comes to the Palace of Culture to share the joy of the Chinese Spring Festival with the audience. The Chinese New Year Concert celebrates the entry into the Year of the Dragon, which begins on February 10, 2024 according to the lunar calendar. The Great Chinese New Year Concert was conceived to enrich the cultural exchange between East and West and to bring traditional Chinese music, which has a history of over 3000 years, to stages around the world.
Each year since 1998, a traditional orchestra from a different Chinese region has been selected by a panel of experts to perform the highlights of its local music in the West. As the orchestra changes each year, the audience is given the opportunity to experience the diverse ethnic musical styles that China has to offer. From the sounds of the horsehead fiddle from Inner Mongolia to the Cantonese melodies of the Gaohu, listeners will be taken on an impressive musical journey through China.
At the invitation of the Dresden Philharmonic.
