About the Concert

Is the East a West German invention? The Leipzig literary scholar and author Dirk Oschmann claims exactly that in his book of the same name, triggering a lively debate in the spring of 2023. A debate in which many East Germans feel represented by his theses and many West Germans think that this cannot be seen as such. And vice versa, because the diversity of personal experiences with the reunified Germany is great, and in the meantime there is already a generation that can't or doesn't want to distinguish between East German and West German.
Together with the Dresden Municipal Libraries, we have invited Dirk Oschmann to discuss his book with Frauke Roth, the director of a major cultural institution from the West, and Cornelius Pollmer, a journalist from the East who works for a major West German daily newspaper, and to explore what paths there might be to a more equal future.

Admission is free of charge. Nevertheless, please select seats via the hall plan and complete the purchase (with value 0 €). Tickets will be checked at the entrance, as at other events of our house.
