About the Concert
Friedrich Gulda wrote his concerto for cello and wind orchestra, but it could just as well say "for cello and big band". Already in the overture, everyone really freaks out: The cello plays a funky melody that sounds improvised, over the groovy rhythm of drums, double bass and electric guitar. Mozart's Wind Serenade, on the other hand, gives the wind instruments their full classical due: the work is one of the most demanding and most beautiful for the musicians that exists for wind instruments. It is unusually extensive for a serenade, but I promise: not a minute will be too long.
