Sinfoniekonzert

Kent Nagano

María Dueñas shines with Bruch, accompanied by works by Schubert and Strauss.

About the Concert

María Dueñas was just 13 when our concertmaster Wolfgang Hentrich invited her to join the Dresden Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra as a soloist. That was the start of her career - shortly thereafter, the charismatic Spaniard, who had moved to Germany with her family a year earlier, was discovered and promoted by conductors such as Marek Janowski and Paavo Järvi, won one international competition after another, and now returns to Dresden with Bruch's Violin Concerto. Kent Nagano also returns as a guest - after his acclaimed concerts with Mahler and Bruckner, now with Schubert's early Third Symphony and "Bürger als Edelmann" by Richard Strauss. The suite to the play of the same name is a showpiece for orchestral musicians, since almost all instruments are soloists. And it is a showpiece for the audience, which can find numerous quotations from other works by Strauss in it.
