Ukrainian National Opera presents:
"Madama Butterfly"
Music: G. Puccini. In Italian language with German surtitles
Ensemble: National Opera and Ballet Theatre Kharkiv, Ukraine
With an impressive cast and accompanied by a live orchestra of over 30 musicians.
No opera can match the tragedy and suffering of Puccini's Madama Butterfly.
Set in Japan at the turn of the last century, it tells the story of a doomed love affair between an American naval officer and his young Japanese bride, whose self-sacrifice and opposition to her family leads to tragedy.
Although the compelling story of Madama Butterfly is endlessly sad and tragic, it remained Puccini's favourite opera. His theatrical feats have given the world the most sublime arias in history and have been beloved by opera-goers for over a century.
This touching story of an innocent love broken between two completely different cultures has lost none of its relevance in modern times.
The Kharkiv opera can look back on a long tradition of high-quality productions, which we are now proud to present to you for the first time in Germany. Not only since the destruction of the local theatre in March 2022 has the ensemble been touring the world with guest performances.
