About the Concert
A lively spirit of innovation, musical dynamism and fascinating venues characterise the unique atmosphere of the Moritzburg Festival. Founded in 1993 by Kai Vogler, Peter Bruns and Jan Vogler in the style of the famous "Marlboro Festival" (USA), the Moritzburg Festival sees itself as both an experimental laboratory and a place of excellence. Under the artistic direction of cellist Jan Vogler, it has established itself as one of the most renowned chamber music festivals worldwide.
Every year in August, soloists from the international music scene and outstanding young artists from all over the world meet in idyllic Moritzburg near Dresden. Here they work together on new interpretations of chamber music works and present them in dynamically changing formations that can only be experienced at the Moritzburg Festival.
The festival's programmes reflect the versatility of chamber music literature and are also intensively dedicated to contemporary compositions. Since 1997, the Moritzburg Festival has awarded the position of composer-in-residence, which has been filled in recent years by composers such as Wolfgang Rihm, Sofia Gubaidulina, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Jörg Widmann.
But excellent musicianship must also be secured for the future. The promotion of young talent is therefore a major concern of the Moritzburg Festival. With the founding of the Moritzburg Festival Academy in 2006, young musicians have the opportunity to work intensively on joint programmes and to present themselves to a wide audience in various concert formats.
