About the Concert

With Olivier Latry a good acquaintance returns to our organ. This time with works by his predecessors and some friends. A particularly good friend of Latry's was Jean-Louis Florentz, who died of cancer in 2004 and whose Prelude to the "Black Elephant" is a touching reminder of him. Louis Vierne, in turn, was one of the titular organists at Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral, so held Latry's post some 80 years earlier. Nearly blind, also suffering from a serious leg ailment after an accident, and plagued by the effects of typhoid fever, Vierne nevertheless left a significant mark on French musical history and demonstrated in his own way the great power that can be gained through music. Dupré, finally, was not only a gifted organist who played all of Bach's organ works by heart, but also set a great example for subsequent generations with his compositions.

At the invitation of the Dresden Philharmonic.
