About the Concert

Tickets for these and other events will go on sale on 21 JUNE, as will election tickets for the coming season.

In a very special concert, Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Sol Gabetta perform as a duo, two internationally celebrated masters of their craft. The bright, singing voice of the violin is juxtaposed with the dark, languorous voice of the cello. And the programme is as rich in contrast as the sound of their instruments. Time-honoured works by Bach and Scarlatti meet new and recent works by Ligeti and Widmann. Our Focus Artist, the violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja from the Republic of Moldova, is just as captivating with her unconventional and impulsive manner as the stylistically confident perfection of the Argentinean Sol Gabetta.

Biographies

Patricia Kopatchinskaja

Patricia Kopatchinskaja’s focus is to get to the heart of the music, to its meaning for us - now and here. With a combination of depth, brilliance and humour, Kopatchinskaja brings an inimitable sense of theatrics to her music. Described by The New York Times "a player of rare expressive energy and disarming informality, of whimsy and theatrical ambition", Kopatchinskaja’s distinctive approach always conveys the core of the work, whether it is with an out-of-the-box performance of a traditional violin repertoire classic or with an original staged project she presents as experimental performance dramaturge.
