About the Concert
He would have liked to become a violin virtuoso himself. Jean Sibelius put his heart and soul into his only solo concerto - and created a work that demands a lot from the soloist. This is no problem for Augustin Hadelich, who knows how to meet the demands of virtuosity as well as those of a clear, flexible sound. Bartók's suite "The Wooden Prince" was written almost at the same time as "Duke Bluebeard's Castle", his only opera, and both works were and are often performed in concert. As in the opera, Bartók achieves the greatest expression, which is expressed here in cheerfulness and joy of playing.
