Anna Lucia Richter

"Richter's voice has a warm, sensuous sound that is multi-dimensional, without heaviness, with impressively effortless breath control" (BBC Music Magazine, "Brahms with character and chemistry" October 2022).

Anna Lucia Richter is a welcome guest worldwide as a concert and opera singer. Recently she has worked with the Vienna Philharmonic under Franz Welser-Möst (Bach's St Matthew Passion) and sung frequently under Teodor Currentzis with MusicAeterna, including in Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito, on tour with works by Gustav Mahler and as Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Salzburg Festival in 2021. She has also appeared regularly with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra under Bernard Haitink, Il Giardino Armonico and Giovanni Antonini, the Orchestre de Paris and Thomas Hengelbrock, the Gewandhaus Orchestra and Philippe Herreweghe, and the Budapest Festival Orchestra under Iván Fischer. With these ensembles, she has made repeated guest appearances at major festivals such as the Lucerne Festival, the BBC Proms in London, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival or as "Artist in Residence" at the Rheingau Music Festival 2018 as well as at the Cologne Philharmonie 2018/2019.

The artist has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award. Most recently, she was nominated as Singer of the Year for Opus Klassik with her debut mezzo-soprano album "Brahms Lieder".

In spring 2020, the artist initiated a change of discipline to mezzo-soprano under the guidance of Prof. Tamar Rachum, who has mentored her ever since and is her authoritative teacher. An important step that opened up new opportunities for the artist worldwide. In March 2021, for example, she gave a short-term guest performance of Mahler's Wunderhorn Lieder under the baton of Ádám Fischer in Düsseldorf, and in 2022 she interpreted the alto part of Mahler's Second Symphony with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra under Jakub Hrůša in Bamberg, Vienna and Baden-Baden, as well as Mahler's Third Symphony with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin under Iván Fischer.

There are also great projects in the 23/24 season: for example, she will interpret Beethoven's Missa Solemnis for the first time under Ph. Herreweghe with the Munich Philharmonic, before returning to the Cologne Opera to embody Idamante in Mozart's Idomeneo in a new production. This is followed by chamber music performances in Heidelberg, Boswil and Alicante, as well as Bruckner's F minor Mass with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, Schubert's A flat major Mass with the Dresden Philharmonic and Mozart and Haydn arias with the Cologne Gürzenich Orchestra under F.X. Roth. Roth.

She also had her subject change in the opera field: At the Cologne Opera she made her debut in December 2021 as Hänsel in Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel under the direction of F.X.Roth. In early 2023 she was acclaimed for the title role in Offenbach's La Périchole at the Theater an der Wien and shortly afterwards sang Sesto in the new production of Handel's Giulio Cesare in Egitto in Cologne.

In the Lied field, Anna Lucia Richter has appeared with extensive repertoire at all the major Lied centres, including the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, the Schubertiada Vilabertran, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Heidelberger Frühling, New York's Park Avenue Armory, Carnegie Hall or Wigmore Hall London, accompanied by pianists such as Sir Andás Schiff, Mitsuko Uchida, Igor Levit, Michael Gees, Gerold Huber and Ammiel Bushakevitz. With the programme "Wunderkinder" she can be experienced in Hitzacker, Hindsgavl and Essen in 23/24. One focus is currently on recitals with the programme "Licht!" ("Light!"), funded by the German Music Council and Neustart Kultur. (800 Years of German Art Song plus Masterclass), which she developed together with Ammiel Bushakevitz and performs in Heidelberg, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, Cologne, Dortmund, Granada, Madrid and Amsterdam. This programme will also be released as a new CD on the CHALLENGE label in autumn 2023.
