Christoph Pohl

After gaining his first vocal experience in the Hanover Boys' Choir, Christoph Pohl was a member of the well-known a cappella group "Modell Andante" for eight years. He then studied at the Hanover University of Music and Drama. From September 2003 to July 2005 Christoph Pohl was a member of the opera studio at the Hamburg State Opera. He is a prize winner of several national and international competitions.

From 2005 to 2018, Christoph Pohl was a member of the ensemble at the Semperoper Dresden, where he sang the essential roles in his field, including Wolfram/"'Tannhäuser", Marcello/"La Bohème", Papageno/"Die Zauberflöte", Count Almaviva/"Le Nozze di Figaro", Guglielmo/" Cosi fan tutte", Olivier and Count /"Capriccio",Danilo/"Die lustige Witwe", Valentin/"Faust". In 2011/12 he made his successful role debuts as Figaro/"Il barbiere di Siviglia", Belcore/"L'elisir d'amore "and had great success with audiences and press as Schwanda in the new production of Weinberger's , ,Svanda dudák". This was followed by Heerrufer/"Lohengrin" and Lescaut/"Manon Lescaut", both under Christian Thielemann, Germont/"Traviata", Posa/"Don Carlo". Most recently, he had a great personal success with Spielmann/"Königskinder "and especially ",Eugene Onegin". He has been a welcome guest there since 2018.

In addition to his engagements in Dresden, Christoph Pohl has made guest appearances at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Stuttgart,Oper Leizpig,Theater Erfurt , Opera de Lyon ,Deutsche Oper am Rhein and several times at the Bayerische Staatsoper München and Staatsoper Hamburg. Lyon and Opéra du Rhin Strasbourg.

In the summer of 2013 he sang Wolfram at the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of the BBC Proms and in 2019 he was there in Haydn's,,Die Schöpfung". He was Wolfram and Danilo at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, debuted as Amfortas/"Parsifal" at the Vlaamse Opera and as Count Francesco Cenci/"Beatrice Cenci" and in the world premiere impressario.com at the Bregenz Festival. At the Theater an der Wien he was Agamemnon/Thoas/"Iphigenie" sang the title role in Salieri's ,,Falstaff" and in Rossini's Guillaume Tell.

In November 2015, he made his debut at the Royal Opera Covent Garden London. The Austrian composer G.F. Haas had composed the work "Morgen und Abend" especially for his voice, and the premiere turned out to be a triumph for soloist and composer and was unanimously acclaimed by the press. Most recently he was very successful as Posa/"Don Carlo" in London.

His song and concert activities have taken him not only to Europe but also to Japan and the USA, among other places. In October 2011 his first CD with songs by Mahler, Liszt and Pizetti was released. In 2017, he gave his first recital at London's prestigious Wigmore Hall.

Christoph Pohl continues to be a pillar of the Semperoper Dresden. Despite the pandemic, he was able to conduct the new productions of "Lucia di Lammermoor" at the Hamburg State Opera and ",Capriccio" at the Semperoper Dresden. Future plans include his return to the Hamburg State Opera, Munich State Opera and Covent Garden London.
