Daniel Thiele

Member of the Orchestra Board
in the orchestra since 1995

Daniel Thiele was born in Dresden in 1971. Growing up in a church music environment, he became acquainted with the great passions and oratorios at an early age. His professional musical education began at the Sächsisches Landesgymnasium für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden and continued in 1989 at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden. He later moved to Munich where he completed his studies with Prof. Reiner Ginzel. He received additional impulses during courses with David Geringas, Walther Nothas and Anner Bylsma. In 1994 Daniel Thiele became a member of the Orchestra Academy of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, where he took lessons with Peter Bruns.
Since 1995 he has been a cellist with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra.

Getting to know the variety of so-called early music for the (baroque) cello is especially close to Daniel Thiele's heart. In chamber music projects he explores compositions of the grandiose musicians of the Saxon court. Together with the dancer Katja Erfurth he regularly performs Johann Sebastian Bach's solo suites, among others at the "Batzdorfer Barockfestspiele". Within the ensembles "Cappella Sagittariana Dresden" and the "Dresdner Barockorchester" he can participate on the baroque cello and viola da gamba. Daniel Thiele received his first impulses for his baroque cello playing from Anner Bylsma. With Olaf Reimers and Prof. Imke David (viola da gamba), he completed the master's degree program "Historical String Instruments" at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Weimar in 2017.

In November 2015 he was invited as a soloist to the international Tbilisi Baroque Festival under the direction of Jordi Savall.

Daniel Thiele's personal and musical engagement is manifold: from 1997 to 2007 he organized 70 "Benefit Concerts for the Interior Renovation of the Kreuzkirche in Dresden" and was thus able to advance the renovation of the Kreuzkirche.
In 2000, he founded the Freie Ensemble Dresden, with which he devotes himself to demanding chamber music.

Since 2019, Daniel Thiele has held a teaching position at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music Dresden. Here he primarily teaches young beginners as part of the children's class at the Hochschule für Musik and at the Landesgymnasium für Musik Dresden.
