Franz Hofereiter, born in Nordhausen in 2000, had his first cello lessons at the age of six. In October 2019, he began his Bachelor’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT in Weimar, studying under Prof. Tim Stolzenburg. He gained significant musical inspiration from, amongst other things, masterclasses with cellists such as David Geringas, Peter Bruns, Sebastian Klinger, Claudio Bohórquez, Konstantin Heidrich, Stephan Forck and Jakob Spahn.
During his studies, he was awarded the Deutschlandstipendium on several occasions and also received a scholarship from the Live Music Now Weimar e. V. Foundation.
During the 2023/24 season, Franz performed regularly as a substitute with the Staatskapelle Weimar. Since the 2024/25 season, he has been a member of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie and participates in the orchestra’s projects and concert tours as a section cellist and section leader.
He completed his Bachelor’s degree at the Weimar University of Music (HfM Weimar) in July 2024. Since the 2024/25 winter term, he has been studying for a Master of Music at the Bremen University of the Arts under Prof. Tanja Tetzlaff. Since August 2026, Franz has been a scholarship holder at the Kurt Masur Academy of the Dresdner Philharmonie.
