Konstanze Pietschmann

The young cellist Konstanze Pietschmann developed a passion for the cello at a very early age thanks to her musical upbringing and received her first lessons from Gerda Scharf at the age of three. After studying in Anna Niebuhr's class for young talent at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theater in Leipzig, she began studying music at the same university in 2018 in the class of Prof. Peter Bruns.

She has won prizes at several national and international competitions. After winning numerous first prizes at the national level in the “Jugend musiziert” competition during her youth, she went on to participate in major international competitions, including the “Concours Reine Elisabeth” in Brussels.

Among other things, she was awarded third place at the International Dotzauer Competition, first place at the International Cello Competition “Anna Kull” in Graz, and most recently the “International Suggia Award” in Porto.

She made her debut as a soloist in 2019 at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig with Robert Schumann's Cello Concerto. This was followed by concerts with the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orquestre Sinfonica do Porto, the award-winning ensemble LGT Young Soloists, and others.

Konstanze's seven-year membership in the world-renowned MDR Children's Choir and her connection to the famous St. Thomas Choir through her schooling at the Thomasschule in Leipzig form the foundation of her vocal expression on the cello. Her early musical collaborations with others led to the development of a passion for chamber music at a very early age.

Ensembles ranging from piano trios to string quartets and string octets have taken Konstanze to concert halls in Portugal, Italy, Ethiopia, Hungary, Greece, Israel, the USA, and many other countries. In 2021, she founded the chamber orchestra “Camerata Espansiva!” to give other young soloists a stage.

In order to continually expand her musical horizons, she regularly participates in masterclasses and festivals. At the Geneva String Academy and Musique a Flaine, she has already performed with renowned musicians such as Sergey Ostrovsky, Noemie Bialobroda, and Christophe Poiget. In addition to masterclasses with Peter Bruns, Alfred Brendel, Marc Coppey, Wolfgang Böttcher, Norman Fischer, Valentin Erben (Alban Berg Quartet), and the two members of the Quatuor Ysaÿe, Luc-Marie Aguera and Yovan Markovitch, Konstanze received important inspiration from Wen-Sinn Yang, Anne Gastinel, and Sir Simon Rattle.

She has performed at the Harmos Festival in Porto and Musique en été in Geneva, among others. Since 2019, Konstanze Pietschmann has been a scholarship holder of the association “Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now” Leipzig e.V.

She has received scholarships from the Jütting Foundation, the Harald Genzmer Foundation, and “Musique à Flaine.”
