Lea Ruth Preiß was born in Annaberg-Buchholz in 2001. She has been a passionate violinist since the age of nine and has been playing in small children’s and youth orchestras, such as the LANDstreicher Sachsen and the Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie, since 2012. Since 2019, she has been able to turn her hobby into a career at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig, studying classical violin in Hans-Werner Mehling’s class for her Bachelor’s degree and in Yun-Jin Cho’s class for her Master’s degree. She has been working as an intern with the MDR Symphony Orchestra since 2026, and from September 2026 she will also be working as a member of the Kurt Masur Academy with the Dresdner Philharmonie. As part of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation’s ‘Live Music Now’ programme, she regularly brings musical joy to people who, due to their circumstances, are unable to attend classical concerts, for example in hospitals, hospices or care homes.
