Michael Schmitz began his training in 2011 as a young student at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen in the class of Prof. Francis Gouton, with whom he completed his Bachelor's degree from 2014 to 2018. He received further artistic impulses in master classes with Peter Bruns, Roland Pidoux, Troels Svane, Claudio Bohórquez, Maria Kliegel and Danjulo Ishizaka, among others. Michael Schmitz is a multiple prize-winner of the national competition "Jugend musiziert", a prize-winner of the competition of the German Musical Instrument Fund as well as a scholarship holder of the Baden-Württemberg State Collection. He has performed as a soloist with the Landesjugendorchester Baden-Württemberg under the direction of Christoph Wyneken. He is a member of the Orchester im Treppenhaus (Hanover), which attracts attention through innovative concert formats, and a regular guest at chamber music festivals such as the PODIUM Festival Esslingen, the Thy Chamber Music Festival or the Festival Musique aux 4 Horizons. Since 2019/20 Michael Schmitz is a member of the Kurt Masur Academy - Orchestra Academy of the Dresden Philharmonic.
