Philipp Ahmann has enjoyed an intensive partnership with the MDR Radio Choir since 2010, which is reflected in successful CD productions and concert projects, among other things. In 2013, the choir appointed him Principal Guest Conductor for three years; Philipp Ahmann has been in charge of the choir's artistic fortunes as Chief Conductor since January 2020.
From 2008 to 2018, he was Chief Conductor of the NDR Choir in Hamburg and conducted renowned early and contemporary music ensembles (Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, B'Rock, Bell'arte Salzburg, Concerto con Anima, Concerto Köln, Le Concert Lorrain, the Elbipolis Barockorchester, Holland Baroque and the Nederlandse Bachverening, Leipziger Barockorchester, Raschèr Saxophone Quartet, Ensemble Resonanz, Fabergé-Quintett). He has also worked with the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the MDR Symphony Orchestra and the NDR Radiophilharmonie as well as with the Rundfunkchor Berlin, the Netherlands Radio Choir, the WDR Radio Choir, the Hungarian Radio Choir, the SWR Vokalensemble and the RIAS Chamber Choir. Productions with the big band "Spielvereinigung Sued", the NDR Bigband and NDR Brass emphasise his versatility.
In addition to performing a cappella literature from all eras, Philipp Ahmann has also made a name for himself with his interpretations of oratorios. In addition to numerous Baroque works and key works from the Viennese Classical and Romantic periods, he has also dedicated himself to numerous modern compositions. He has performed at renowned festivals such as the Rheingau Music Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Handel Festivals in Göttingen and Halle and made his debut at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile in 2019.
Philipp Ahmann was born in 1974 and studied conducting with Marcus Creed in Cologne. He received further inspiration from Frieder Bernius, Peter Neumann and Robin Gritton as well as through his work for renowned orchestral conductors such as Gerd Albrecht, Alain Altinoglu, Semyon Bychkov, Dennis Russell Davies and Christoph von Dohnányi, Peter Eötvös, Christoph Eschenbach, Thomas Hengelbrock, Heinz Holliger, Marek Janowski, Wladimir Jurowski, Andrew Manze, Kent Nagano, Andris Nelsons, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Christian Thielemann and Lothar Zagrosek.
