Samantha Gaul

Samantha Gaul has been a member of the Leipzig Opera ensemble since the 2022/23 season and has already appeared there as Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Ännchen (Der Freischütz), Zerlina (Don Giovanni) and Frasquita (Carmen).

In the current season, she will make her debut as Pamina in a new production of The Magic Flute and can be heard as Musetta (La Bohème), 5th Maid (Elektra) and as a solo soprano in the ballet production "Paradise Lost".

In addition, Samantha Gaul will take on the soprano role in Haydn's "The Creation" for the first time with the Thomanerchor Leipzig and the Gewandhaus Orchestra under the direction of Andreas Reize and will make her debut at the Philharmonie Berlin, the Kulturpalast Dresden and the Thomaskirche Leipzig.

Guest engagements have taken the young soprano to the Komische Oper Berlin (Nannetta), the Theater Basel (Augusta Leigh), the Staatstheater Darmstadt (Flora, Linfea), the Konzerttheater Bern (Musetta), as Najade to the Frankfurt Opera and the Opéra National de Montpellier, as well as several times at the Staatstheater Augsburg, where she was convincing as Sophie Scholl (Zimmermann's Weiße Rose), in the title role of Hartmann's Simplicius Simplicissimus, as Serpetta (La Finta Giardiniera) and Adina (L'elisir d'amore). She has also made her debut at the Munich Biennale for Contemporary Music Theater, the Schwetzingen SWR Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Weilburg Castle Concerts and a recital at the Villa Wahnfried Bayreuth.

As an enthusiastic concert and lieder singer, it was a great pleasure for Samantha Gaul to make her debut at the Schubertiade Hohenems in spring 2022 with pianist Kit Armstrong, whose songs based on poems by Ulla Hahn they premiered together.

In 2020, she performed Najade with the Budapest Festival Orchestra under Iván Fischer at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall in Budapest and the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza.

The award-winning soprano made her debut at the Philharmonie Luxembourg with Mahler's Symphony No. 4 under Carlo Rizzari.

At Theater Freiburg, where she was a member of the ensemble until 2022, she sang important roles in her repertoire, such as Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Nannetta (Falstaff), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Musetta (La Bohème), Olympia (The Tales of Hoffmann) and the title role in the German premiere of Mark Anthony Turnage's Coraline.

She also enjoyed great success there in the title role of Janáček's Cunning Little Vixen, which she sang for a CD production with NAXOS and SWR.

Opernwelt nominated Samantha Gaul as Young Artist of the Year in 2018.
