Selma Westermann was a member of the Kurt Masur Academy of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra from 2017 to 2019, where she completed a master's degree in orchestral practice with Prof. Mario Hendel at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music Dresden. She then continued her studies there with a further master's degree under Prof. Philipp Zeller.
She completed her bachelor's degree in 2016 at the Würzburg University of Music under Prof. Albrecht Holder.
She has been a bassoonist and contrabassoonist with the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt Oder since November 2023. Previously, she was principal bassoonist in the orchestra of the Sorbian National Ensemble Bautzen and had temporary contracts in the orchestra of the Coburg State Theater and the Thuringia Philharmonic Gotha-Eisenach. She was also a member of the Academy of the Erfurt Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestra Academy of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival.
