Sofia von Freydorf

Sofia von Freydorf was born in Stockholm in 1995 and grew up in Bonn. She received her first lessons with Alexander Oratovski and later continued with Barbara Varsanyi.  She received eleven first prizes at the competition "Jugend musiziert" competition and the first prize at the Karel Kunc competition.
She studied at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in
Dresden with Ramón Jaffé, the main emphasis of her studies was in chamber music and new music. She received important impulses
master classes and collaboration with Peter Bruns, Wolfgang Böttcher, Natalia Gutman and Gustav Rivinius.
During her studies she was a member of the European Youth
Orchestra, as well as the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. The
tours with these orchestras took her to the most important concert halls in the concert halls of the world, including the BBC Proms and the Salzburg Festival. After her studies she played for two years as
Academist in the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra.
From 2019 to 2022, she was in the academy of the Sächsische
Staatskapelle Dresden and receives lessons from Norbert Anger.
Currently, she is on temporary contract at the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz and is also on trial at the English National Opera London.
From the 2023/2024 season she will be deputy principal cellist of the Mecklenburgische Staatskapelle Schwerin. Sofia regularly takes part in festivals of chamber music, as well as
at the Gustav Mahler Festival, Davos Festival, Chamber Music Festival Hopfgarten. These encounters inspired her to found the
"Young Artists Festival Bonn".
