Sreten Manojlovic

With a voice that combines strength, versatility, and profound expression, bass-baritone Sreten Manojlović has established himself as a compelling performer on Europe’s stages, particularly in eighteenth-century repertoire. He pursued his formal studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (MDW), whilst his collaboration with the Belgrade Baroque Academy had a lasting impact on his artistic development.

He first gained international recognition in 2019 when he was selected for Le Jardin des Voix, the young artist program of Les Arts Florissants. Under the musical direction of William Christie and the stage direction of Sophie Daneman, he sang the role of Nardo in Mozart’s La finta giardiniera on a European tour. Since then, he has collaborated regularly with the French ensemble, including performances in Haydn’s The Seasons, and Handel’s L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato, which was also recorded for Harmonia Mundi. In 2022, he opened the season at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam as Polypheme in Handel’s Acis and Galatea under the musical direction of Leonardo García Alarcón and the stage direction of Pierre Audi. In black tones and mechanical agility, his portrayal of Polypheme shed light on the monstrous and sinister aspects of this complex character. That same year, he made his debut as Figaro in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at Theatre Aachen, where he also appeared as Gelone in Antonio Cesti’s Orontea—a portrayal that received particular acclaim. Under the musical direction of Benjamin Bayl, he performed the role of Rambaldo in Vivaldi’s Griselda and Lotario in Handel’s Flavio at the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival. Under the baton of George Petrou, Sreten made his debut at the International Handel Festival in Göttingen in Sarrasine, a pasticcio of lesser known Handel arias. The work centered on the story by Honoré de Balzac, in which he portrayed the part of the author. With Petrou, he returns to the festival in 2025 as Leone in Handel’s Tamerlano and will also make his debut as Lucifer in Handel’s La Resurrezione at the Megaron Concert Hall in Athens.

The 2025/26 season brings first collaborations with the Camerata Salzburg and Dorothee Oberlinger, as well as with Theater Heidelberg and Jörg Halubek. He continues his colaboration with Leonardo García Alarcón, taking on the role of Pan in J. S. Bach’s Geschwinde, ihr wirbelnden Winde at the Maison de Radio et de la Musique in Paris. With Les Arts Florissants, he appears as the bass soloist in the Christmas Oratorio, as Argante in Handel’s Rinaldo under Paul Agnew, and reprises the role of Simon in Haydn’s The Seasons under William Christie.
