Tobias Glöckler

Deputy solo double bass player
in the orchestra since 1990

Tobias Glöckler joined the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra in 1990 as deputy principal double bass. He is a prize winner of the International ISB Double Bass Competition in the USA. After studying with Prof. Konrad Siebach at the Leipzig Academy of Music, he perfected his skills with Ulrich Lau (Stuttgart) and Jeff Bradetich (Chicago/USA). As a double bass soloist, he has played with various orchestras (including the Dresden Philharmonic) and has been a guest at international music festivals.

He is a founding member and solo bassist of the ensemble frauenkirche dresden. He also devotes himself intensively to the chamber music repertoire with the Dresden String Quintet.

At the Dresden Academy of Music he is a lecturer for double bass and chamber music. He has held numerous workshops in Germany and abroad (Berlin, London, New York, Houston, São Paulo). Several times he was also a juror at international competitions in the USA, Brazil and Germany.

For the renowned music publishers Henle and Breitkopf & Härtel he is successfully active as an editor of Urtext editions (German Music Edition Award). For his services to the historical Viennese double bass tuning he received the special award for historical performance practice of the International Society of Bassists.
