About the Concert

This program leads to at least two highlights of German organ music: Johann Sebastian Bach is inconceivable without his works for the queen of instruments. And for Max Reger, the uncomfortable composer from the Upper Palatinate, who was either depressed or in high spirits, there was nothing greater than playing the organ. And to create works for it! We have invited the new organist of Dresden Cathedral, Sebastian Freitag, who knows both very well

Johann Sebastian Bach
Chaconne in D minor (Arr. Arno Landmann)

Arno Landmann
Variations on a Theme by Händel

Max Reger
Introduction, Variations and Fugue on an original theme in F sharp minor

Sebastian Freitag

Sebastian Freitag comes from Paderborn, where he worked as interim cathedral organist from 2011 to 2013 and as deanery church musician from 2013 to 2022 after studying in Detmold. There he performed the complete works of Bach (2018), Franck (2019) and Buxtehude (2021), among others. From 2017 to 2021, he also held a teaching position for organ at the University of Paderborn. Since March 2022, he has been working as Dresden Cathedral organist on the last and largest organ from Gottfried Silbermann's workshop.
