About the Concert
Fanny Hensel not only stood in the shadow of her famous brother Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy for a long time, but she was also only discovered as a composer (much too) late. Her cycle "The Year" was even lost until 1980. Today it is considered a true musical treasure. Originally composed for piano, each of the 12 character pieces is dedicated to a month. They were inspired by the culture and nature of Italy, accordingly sunny, light-filled, and cheerful is their character. Johannes Brahms' Violin Concerto, on the other hand, became famous with its premiere. This was not only due to its catchy and Hungarian-fiery melodies in the last movement, but also because it was initially considered almost unplayable. "This is way too difficult!" Joseph Joachim said, to whom Brahms had dedicated the concerto as a gift of friendship. But he overcame the difficulties, as did many violinists after him, and today it is one of the most popular violin concertos of all time.
