About the Concert

Traditionally associated more with folk music, the accordion is finally coming into focus for classical music audiences as the Instrument of the Year 2026. Rightfully so, because it is much more than just a bulky bellows! Described as a "machine with a soul" - an instrument with mechanical parts and at the same time a "breath-taking center," Dobrinka Tabakova, the composer of the accordion concerto "Sublime Dreams of Living Machines," explains. It cleverly combines emotional directness, sound sophistication, and contemporary reflection on humanity and technology. Also, Janáček's opera "The Cunning Little Vixen" is more than it seems at first glance, not just a harmless animal fairy tale, but a parable on human imperfection. On the other hand, Mozart's "Prague" Symphony appears quite carefree, becoming a favorite piece of the audience soon after its premiere in Prague in 1887.
