About the Concert

Every instrument has its own color, every instrument has its own character. But which of the many instruments can laugh and cry, sob and rejoice - and thus comes very close to the human voice? Also Phili, our curious meerkat, has asked herself this and has taken a very close look in the orchestra cellar. She guesses the clarinet. I wonder if that's true? And how do you even play it? And what does this Carl Maria von Weber have to do with it, who spent many years in the summer in Dresden-Hosterwitz? Questions, all questions - to which Malte will surely find good answers.

Biographies

Riccardo Minasi

Since 2022, the Italian conductor and violinist Riccardo Minasi is the Principal Guest Conductor of the Ensemble Resonanz at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Artistic Director of the Orchestra La Scintilla at the Zurich Opera House and Music Director of the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, the latter until the end of the 2024/25 season. He is a welcome guest with orchestras and opera houses throughout Europe and in Japan as well as an editor of critical music editions. In 2023 he made his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker.

Martin Fröst

Clarinettist, conductor and Sony Classical recording artist Martin Fröst is constantly seeking new ways to challenge and reshape classical music. The Swede's repertoire includes both classical clarinet works and a growing number of contemporary pieces. Chamber music and music education are also very important to him. In recent years, he has further developed his conducting career and has been Chief Conductor of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra since fall 2019.

Malte Arkona

The presenter, actor and voice actor Malte Arkona is known to many viewers from television, but is also one of the most sought-after music educators in the German-speaking world. He has been a regular stage partner of the Dresden Philharmonic in this capacity for many years and has been presenting its new "Best of Classics" series, which he co-designed, since the 2024/25 season. He also directs video clips for the orchestra, in which he can also be seen himself.

Victoria Esper

Her main goal is to present musical education in a lively way and to inspire children in particular for the world of classical music: Victoria Esper often works as a speaker and presenter and helped develop the fantasy character Phili for the concert series “phil zu entdecken” for the Dresden Philharmonic. She has a degree in singing and has also worked as a cultural manager in recent years. In her free time, she is committed to social interaction and media literacy for children.

Michael Kube

Concept

Michael Kube is a passionate music educator and has been conceiving the school and family concert series "phil zu entdecken" for the Dresden Philharmonic since the 2015/16 season. He also works as an editor and consultant, is a juror for the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik, and a university lecturer in music history, musicology and music education.
