About the Concert

Against Beethoven's Seventh Symphony, "every rock number is like a lame duck" (Karl-Heinz Ott in his book about Beethoven's symphonies). That sounds exaggerated? Perhaps, but the music is indeed full of energy, power and emotion. This was already felt by the audience at the premiere in Vienna in 1813, which virtually cheered with enthusiasm. Beethoven did not have an extra-musical program for this symphony, as he did for his Sixth (Nature) or Fifth (Fate), but there is no need for one. Our Principal Guest Conductor, Kahchun Wong, who comes from Singapore, loves the work precisely because of its openness and will certainly conduct it in a rousing manner in our short concert with the Dresden Philharmonic.
