About the Concert

Beethoven's symphonies are part of the "basic equipment" of all orchestras. Who hasn't heard the "ta-ta-ta-taaaa" somewhere before! What is fascinating about his works? Why did Beethoven become a classic at all? What is behind the "Fate Symphony" - the nickname of the Fifth Symphony? The Dresdner Philharmonie invites students to get to know the music and life of Beethoven.

Biographies

Sergej Bolkhovets

The Swedish conductor Sergej Bolkhovets initially studied violin and played as a guest with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, among others. He received his conducting training in Weimar and Stockholm. He was a Conducting Fellow at the Verbier Festival from 2016 to 2018, Assistant Conductor at the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in 2019/20 and 1st Kapellmeister at Gothenburg Opera from 2020 to 2022. Recently, he has conducted at the Bavarian State Opera and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.

Malte Arkona

The presenter, actor and voice actor Malte Arkona is known to many viewers from television, but is also one of the most sought-after music educators in the German-speaking world. He has been a regular stage partner of the Dresden Philharmonic in this capacity for many years and has been presenting its new "Best of Classics" series, which he co-designed, since the 2024/25 season. He also directs video clips for the orchestra, in which he can also be seen himself.

Magdalena Brouwer

Magdalena Brouwer has not only played the violin and horn excellently since a very young age and has already performed with youth orchestras at the Vienna Musikverein, the Berlin Philharmonic and the German National Youth Orchestra, but she also knows a lot about music history and loves to get other young people inspired by it as well. In 2023, aged only 16, she presented for the first time school concerts of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra with Malte Arkona and will do so again in the 2025/26 season.

Michael Kube

Concept

Michael Kube is a passionate music educator and has been conceiving the school and family concert series "phil zu entdecken" for the Dresden Philharmonic since the 2015/16 season. He also works as an editor and consultant, is a juror for the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik, and a university lecturer in music history, musicology and music education.
