About the Concert

With drums and pipes - sounds a bit casual, but in essence it captures the unusual combination of instruments in this concert. The percussion becomes the partner of the sublime organ and both convincingly demonstrate how well they fit together. Actually, an organist alone can draw from the full range of instruments. But that is not enough for the internationally sought-after Christian Schmitt. That is why he likes to team up with other musicians such as the Luxembourg percussionist Christoph Sietzen. Together they immerse themselves in Sofia Gubaidulina's "Detto", let it rip in Saint-Saëns' "Danse Macabre" and bring along a new piece composed for them by the Swedish composer Andrea Tarrodi. With Maki Ishii's "Thirteen Drums" and Bach's famous organ passacaglia, everyone gets their big solo.

At the invitation of the Dresden Philharmonic
