About the Concert

Tickets for this event will be available from 12.06.2024 from 10 am.

Tchaikovsky was not known for self-praise, but in his Sixth Symphony, for once, he did not skimp on it, finding it highly successful himself - a judgment that we can definitely agree with today. It is a compositional masterpiece and as peculiar as it is unique. Tchaikovsky's brother Modest gave it the nickname "Pathétique". It is indeed pathetic. What's more, the Sixth is tragic, dramatic, gripping, ominous. And it is Tchaikovsky's swan song: nine days after the premiere, he died of cholera under circumstances that remain unexplained to this day.

Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt

A lock of his hair, which Mstislav Rostropovich stroked when he was eight years old, still has a place of honor in Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt's photo album. The accompanying words of the master at the time were to prove true: "You will become a great cellist one day."
