Ellen Schweda was born in Schwedt and grew up in what is now the state of Saxony-Anhalt. She studied North American Studies, Political Science, and History in Halle, Berlin, and Amsterdam. As a radio journalist and presenter, she worked for various private and public broadcasting organizations in Berlin and Hamburg. Since 2008, she has worked primarily as a freelance author and presenter for MDR Kultur.
She is also interested in questions of effective communication and social negotiation processes, and holds a Master's degree in Mediation & Conflict Management. Her work, ‘Hoffnung als Ressource im Mediationsprozess’, is going to be published later this year through Wolfgang Metzner Publishing.
She designs and hosts congresses, conferences, panel discussions, and literary readings.
Ellen Schweda lives in Halle (Saale) and in Aberfeldy in the Highlands of Scotland.
