British mezzo-soprano and contralto Stephanie Wake-Edwards, called "richly expressive" by "The Times" is a winner of the Concours Bordeaux Médoc Lyrique, a graduate of the prestigious Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Ballet and Opera, Covent Garden, England’s representative for the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, and a current ensemble member of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

 

Stephanie Wake-Edwards’ performances of the 2024/25 season as part of the Deutsche Oper Berlin ensemble include the title role in "Carmen", La Marchesa Melibea in "Il viaggio a Reims", Maddalena in "Rigoletto", Mary in "Der fliegende Holländer", the Page in "Salome", and more. Highlights of the 2025/26 season include Grimgerde in "Die Walküre" and Floßhilde in "Götterdämmerung" as part of the "Ring" Cycle. Elsewhere in 2024/25, Ms. Wake-Edwards will appear as Polina in "Pique Dame" with Garsington Opera and Hermia in "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" in concert as part of the BBC Proms.

 

In the 2023/24 season, Stephanie Wake-Edwards performed Hermia with Garsington Opera, the Third Lady in "Die Zauberflöte" with English National Opera, and the Third Nymph in "Rusalka" at the Bayerische Staatsoper. Highlights of previous seasons have included Ino in a new production of "Semele" at Glyndebourne Opera, Anna in Weill’s "The Seven Deadly Sins" at the Teatro Colón in Argentina, Javotte in "Manon" with Staatsoper Hamburg, and more. While at the Royal Ballet and Opera, Stephanie Wake-Edwards performed Anna in Weill’s "The Seven Deadly Sins", filmed for streaming release, Flora in "La traviata" and Third Lady in "Die Zauberflöte".  

 

In concert, she has performed Handel’s "Messiah" with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 with Semyon Bychkov at the Royal Festival Hall in London, Vivaldi’s Stabat Mater at the Grafenegg Festival in Austria, "Messiah" in Dubai with the Astana Symphony Orchestra, as well as recitals at Wigmore Hall, Opéra national de Bordeaux and Oxford International Song Festival.

 

Based in Berlin, Stephanie Wake-Edwards recently recorded selections of Fanny Hensel (née Mendelssohn) at the Mendelssohn house in Leipzig, including some works never before recorded. She graduated from the University of York with a bachelor's degree in Sociology with Social Psychology followed by a master's degree in Vocal Studies with Alex Ashworth at the Royal Academy of Music, where she is an Associate.
