About the Concert

The Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach - who doesn't know it. For many people, it is a fixed part of the Advent and Christmas season. In a version specially designed for children, excerpts from this famous oratorio for choir, soloists, and orchestra with moderation create a musical approach to the Christmas story. A special music lesson with the Dresden Kreuzchor and the Dresden Philharmonic in the concert hall of the Kulturpalast. Let yourself be surprised!

Biographies

Kreuzkantor Martin Lehmann

Martin Lehmann has been the 29th Kreuzkantor since autumn 2022, holding one of the most prestigious posts in Protestant church music. As a child and teenager, he was himself a member of the Kreuzchor; he later studied choral and orchestral conducting in Dresden. During his studies, he gained valuable experience as an assistant to Hans-Christoph Rademann at the Dresdner Kammerchor. Following posts in Leipzig and Wuppertal, he took over as director of the Windsbacher Knabenchor in 2012 for a ten-year term.

Malte Arkona

The presenter, actor and voice actor Malte Arkona is known to many viewers from television, but is also one of the most sought-after music educators in the German-speaking world. He has been a regular stage partner of the Dresden Philharmonic in this capacity for many years and has been presenting its new "Best of Classics" series, which he co-designed, since the 2024/25 season. He also directs video clips for the orchestra, in which he can also be seen himself.

Michael Kube

Concept

Michael Kube is a passionate music educator and has been conceiving the school and family concert series "phil zu entdecken" for the Dresden Philharmonic since the 2015/16 season. He also works as an editor and consultant, is a juror for the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik, and a university lecturer in music history, musicology and music education.

Dresdner Kreuzchor

The Dresdner Kreuzchor is one of the oldest and most famous boys' choirs in the world. Even after more than 800 years, one of its most important tasks is to sing in the liturgical services of the Kreuzkirche on Dresden's Altmarkt, where it performs in vespers and church services and regularly gives concerts with outstanding works of sacred music. In addition, the Crucians (Kruzianer), who have been singing under the direction of Martin Lehmann since 2022, regularly go on tours at home and abroad as cultural ambassadors for Dresden.
