About the Concert

Founded in 1967 on the initiative of the then chief conductor Kurt Masur, both the Philharmonic Children's Choir and its adult counterpart, the Philharmonic Choir Dresden, are indispensable members of the Philharmonic family. Many choir members start their training at the age of 5 or 6 in the preparatory classes, before moving on to sing in the children's choir and around the age of twelve in the concert choir, and often becoming members of the Philharmonic Choir as adults. This requires not only a love for singing but also strength and commitment, as for all choir singers, choral singing is a "hobby". In their anniversary concert, both ensembles present the wide range of their abilities and also convey how much joy singing together can bring.

Philharmonischer Chor Dresden

The Dresden Philharmonic Choir has been active for over 55 years, since it was founded in 1967 on the initiative of Kurt Masur. The approximately 70 singers perform the demanding choral work in their free time. They give concerts with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of the respective chief and guest conductors, collaborate with other choirs and orchestras and perform a cappella programs in and outside of Dresden. Iris Geißler has led the ensemble since October 2022.
