About the Concert

What would a painting sound like if it were music? The Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky tried it out and the result was his famous "Pictures at an Exhibition". There are bickering saleswomen at a turbulent market, a limping gnome creeps past, chirping chicks hatch out of their eggshells and dance a ballet. Together with the orchestra and Malte Arkona, we also encounter the wicked witch Baba Jaga, meet playing children in the park, visit an old castle and walk through the great gate of Kiev. Can't you imagine? Then come with your class to the Palace of Culture for the school concert!

Biographies

Adam Hickox

The young Briton Adam Hickox conducts with an impressive, elegantly flowing technique and presents mature interpretations of a broad repertoire, as he did in his debut with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2019 to 2022, he was assistant conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. In December 2023, following his successful debut at Glyndebourne Autumn Opera conducting Donizetti's "L'elisir d'amore", he was appointed Principal Conductor of the Glyndebourne Sinfonia.

Michael Kube is a passionate music educator. Since the 2015/16 season, he has been organizing school concerts and family concerts in the Dresden Philharmonic's "phil zu entdecken" series.
