She is one of the most significant voices in contemporary German literature and at the same time an important voice from Georgia. Nino Haratischwili fills large halls when she reads from her novels – not only because she establishes immediate contact with the audience through her open and approachable manner, but also because her books appeal to a wide readership. <br>Her international breakthrough came with the epic "The Eighth Life (For Brilka)." Her other novels, including "My Gentle Twin," "The Cat and the General," and "The Insufficient Light," are characterised by powerful language and an intense engagement with history and identity. As part of our focus on Georgia, she will read exclusively for the audience in Dresden excerpts from her latest novel, which will be published shortly and - so much she has already revealed - fits perfectly with our seasonal motto. <br><br>At the invitation of the Dresden Philharmonic<br>In collaboration with the Municipal Libraries of Dresden<br>

Biographies

Nino Haratischwili

Nino Haratischwili, an author, theatre director and playwright born in Georgia and educated partly there and partly in Germany, is one of the most significant voices in contemporary German-language literature. Her epic novel "The Eighth Life (For Brilka)" became her first international bestseller in 2014 and has been translated into more than 20 languages. She is deeply committed to defending democracy, a commitment she also highlighted in her 2025 collection of essays "Europe, Wake Up!"

David Khrikuli

David Khrikuli is a young Georgian pianist who is at the beginning of a promising international career. Praised everywhere for his expressiveness and sense of dynamics, he has already won numerous competitions, including first prizes at the international competitions in Cantù, Italy, and Vigo, Spain. In 2025, he reached the final of the Chopin Competition in Warsaw. His most recent engagements have taken him to several cities in Poland as well as to Madrid and Berlin.

Ellen Schweda

Ellen Schweda was born in Schwedt and grew up in what is now the state of Saxony-Anhalt. She studied North American Studies, Political Science, and History in Halle, Berlin, and Amsterdam. As a radio journalist and presenter, she worked for various private and public broadcasting organizations in Berlin and Hamburg. Since 2008, she has worked primarily as a freelance author and presenter for MDR Kultur.
